what does this mean for myself who qualified after a 2 year full time Diploma in Nursery Nursing in 1994?(NNEB) I still remember those 100 observations too! I have had trouble persuading my HT that NNEB is equivalent to level 3 and she still keeps asking me if I want to do the NVQ 3 at quite some cost to myself and time out of the classroom (I work 1:1 SEN) After qualifiying I worked as a Family Centre Officer for Social Services, then had my own children, lived abroad, worked in an Esporta childrens club and spent ages trying to get a job in a school with the NNEB qualififcation, I had to go the volunteer route in my children's school, then lunchtime supervisor, then Governor as well until several applications later I get the job I have currently, I was told there were too many applications from people with higher qualifications than me. Other staff members told me I would be great for a TA job and work hard etc etc but to no avail. However even though I have a TA job I feel looked down on by some other TA's who I presume think I got in the mother route even though I have a serious qualification that I worked hard for!! I feel like wearing a badge that says - yes I spent 2 years full time at college for this qualification - I am not just another on the job trained mother! I wonder where my NNEB badge is these days...

Look at the link Dinny posted above, which provides confirmation that the NNEB is equivalent to the level 3. How would I have got onto my level 4 Foundation Degree with the NNEB if it were not so. Apparently, heads have been told to 'ignor' the NNEB (or at least, that is what my Head told me). I think it is to do with money and the fact they want everyone to go for the nvq's. You cannot take away a qualification once passed and we need to plug away and keep reminding people exactly what we did for it.

Also, perhaps it is becase the NNEB is seen as an early years qual and TAs are supposed to be able to support in any age group.

I know, it stinks.
Twisted Evil

Go for the foundation degree and then they can't say diddly. (It also provides a way of gaining HLTA status too).
