I am very nearly at the end of NCFE level 2 qualification and have been "promised" a job in my Sons school (ive done my voluntary hours there)
At present I work in Yr3 with the whole class, the job im going to get is 1 to 1 with either a downs child entering reception, or perhaps autistic child entering Yr1.
Im terrified! What if the child hates me! wont work for me? How much will I be expected to do as far as teaching plans are concerned?
I realise Im probably stressing because Im new at it, but any advice or links would be fantastic!

I find generally that most children are accepting of any adult attention.

I have not worked with a child with downs but have autistic. Take time to find out about the child from their parents, previous teacher in respect of year 1 child, and SENCO, try and find out what they particularly like and home in on that whilst you start to build your relationship with them

I am sure you will be fine.

Good luck

I am sure you will be fine, like any relationship I thinkn it just will take time to get to know each other. I work with an ASD child and was quite concerned at first but it was much easier to get to know him thatn I thought it would be.

Two friends have 'downs' children and they are both hard work but delightful.
