no probs. it doesnt cme into effect until Jan 09, so abit of time yet, then from what i gather pay is protected for 3 years. Our school is looking into going for foundation status, and from this as far as i can gather the head can hire, fire and pay who he pleases. should be interesting |

yeh, unison have agreed to the changes as it means majority of their members get a pay rise, however we wont as we apparently get paid to much already. yeas, we do get paid well, but how can they take it back. We have said it will resort back to mums in classrooms, rather than skilled staff. hopefully the HT goes for foundation status as then he will evaluate each job independently.
my other concern with this is that every TA job is different, how they can compare one to another is beyond me. On the plus side of course, is that when i eventually move back to cornwall the pay their should be the same as it is here, whereas when i worked there before i earned half the pay i get here.
we have decided to spend the next few years getting all the qualifications we can, covering our back all the way, in the hope it pays off down the line |

Its interesting to see how the 'poiltics' work, is this the same a sthe banding system? I applied for a job that was band c, i've never really understood it as the info is very hard to pin down but it was something to do with the sen levels.
So, foundation status gives the haed power, is that rather than county being in the hiring/firing seat?
Is pay that much lower in Cornwall than other places, I have been told this is so but can't go round asking people whayt they earn so its another grey area. I really should know about things like this for the future! Especially as i live down here! |

not sure about banding. we have a grade system, where some TAs are grade 1 and grade 2, within this you can be qualified and unqualified, then within this again you have points depending on experience how long you have worked etc. Then there is grade 3, which is for senior TAs etc. you have to be qualified for this grade, but still thats are points involved.
As for pay in cornwall, in brief i did the same job down there, same hours. Here i take him double what i did down there. However the roles and resposibilities within the job are alot more here. but, even new TAs earn more than i ever did in cornwall. |

Last night had our 'big' meeting with unison. They are advising us now to return the acceptance form to the council in case we do get sacked in February when the new contracts come into force. They will provide us with a letter to enclose with the acceptance form to make it clear that we are signing under duress.
Ballot for strike action will end on 21st December. They are not saying what form the strike will take - if in fact people vote for strike. This would commence after 7th January. New contracts come into force on 18th February. Seems to be leaving things a bit late.
last night was not a good show and if indicative of people's attitude to the single status - I think the council will win

think different regions are experiencing things at different times johns.
We received our final offers through from council saying accept or be dismissed. So we are to agree under duress and if enough agree to strike - unison will decide what form the strike will take - whether a whole out or just sections which will create most havoc.
Council have not given dates for appeals to be heard - me having put mine in back in april this year. We hear they have not started training the people who are to sit on the appeal panels yet! So we are not holding our breath.
Unison hoping if we do strike that the council will agree to go back to the table to renegotiate. If strike not supported then we are to roll over and die _________________ Howway the lads |

Nutty if you go on the Cornwall Council website they should advertise the TA jobs and pay will be on too.Failing that why not phone up the payroll. |
