Can anyone think of a differentiated resource to help to deliver to year 5 SEN children that are doing co-ordinates in the first quadrant as their class topic? (no interactive whiteboard available)

Treasure hunt...

Lay out a grid

Solve the clues (HA) to determine the final position of the treasure (a good number of steps)

Follow the treasure map (LA), few steps to find the treasure.

Revise Compass / directions first Smile

For LA print corridor and stairs alongside appropriate axes... constantly reinforce along then up

Did this 2 weeks ago, with sen yr6.
first thing i did was help them understand what 1st quadrant meant showing them a whole plotting grid.[ for mine it was no good having the words in the LO if they didnt know what it was]
looked at whole grid, pointed out 1st quadrant, explained why they are called quaudrants.
in hall i had with masking tape, made quadrant on hall floor, axis labelled on paper on stuck with blue tack, each child then pulled co-ornates from a bag and had to go stand on that place.
have also combined this in the past with following instruction, so a card pulled from bag might say, put the red box on the co-ordinate blah, blah
take photos to make a display, or put in topic books
hope it helps.

Thanks for the suggestions. Would love to do the school hall one, but nativity rehearsals wont permit. I could take in a chess board and place items at certain intersections. Or get kids to throw 2 dice and maybe place the item at that point. Or maybe I will look for an old map and use that.
Have the ideas now, doesn't have to be rocket science to be effective does it? Thank you both.

Have a look on primary resources. Ignore the indicated level as they can be adapted for Y5
