Not a nice topic, but I wondered what policy other school's have on children ( and staff) returning after the winter sicky bug?

Our policy has always been 24hours after last sickness ( or other end!!), but in light of the guidance on the news that it should be 48 hours, have school's changed? Our head won't budge so far from 24 hours, but many children seem to come back too soon.

Ours is 24 hours as well although parents often ignore this. It is only when a child says 'I was sick this morning miss' that we know and by then it is too late. Do others still send them home. Our Head lets them stay as long as they are ok which I feel makes a mockery of the rule.

Ours is 48 hours but we have to constantly send reminders home as some parents send their children in if they have had sickness in the night! I had to help a boy before the holidays who had messed himself in the playground. He told me that he had had the problem the night before too but was still back the next day. At the moment we are sendinghome all children who seem remotely likely to be ill and those who come in and then say they have been ill in the night.
Parents wouldn't be happy if we had to send their children home through lack of staff because we had all caught something so why do they insist on putting us and the rest of the class at risk?

Our LA sent out information sheets from the health authority to all schools and they recommend staying off after the last bout of sickness for 48hrs.

Our head sent a newsletter to all parents requesting this and said if the children felt unwell [after having a day off] they WILL be sent home.

It's also annoying when a member of staff comes in clearly unwell, starts coughing and spluttering then says they need to go home. Why come in at all? My head teacher would be the first to tell them to stay at home so it's not because no-one would believe they were unwell.

I was once told off for not returning immediately, the same person informed me that 'sick bugs are caused by people not washing their hands properly.'Needless to say I was furious. Thankfully he is no longer my boss.

If we go home ill then the number of hours missed is registered!

Our school has 24 hrs timescale, but as you've all been saying kids are sent in even if they've been ill overnight, or even in the morning before school. I just couldn't do it to my kids
