I have just started part 2 of the book and find it quite heartbreaking that they (Elenia and Dimitri) are being sent there. Very well written and I can be soppy and get emotional with books (it is my release from study, work and life sometimes).
It seems hard to believe that with all the preparations for a major war and technology tied up with it making so many advances, that in 1939 there was no civilised way to deal with leprosy (or TB for that matter)
