The school my children go to have just started a scheme called Big Writing. Not sure if it's the same thing. We've had a letter home to say that they are all going to have 'Talking' homework - a subject to talk about at home, and a word of the week to increase their vocabulary. My 5 year old was talking about doing a lot of thinking and talking about his Big Writing work. Does this sound like the same scheme. I'll have to quiz my 10 year old more - but it's like getting blood out of a stone!

If it is the same, or similar, my children seem to be enjoying the new approach so far.

Thats the one Little Sal. My only worry is that they have candles on the desk. A few weeks ago one of my twins' work caught on fire it only damaged the corner of her work and she had wrote an excellent piece she was quite upset about it. Can't believe the Head allows candles as he is so safety consious! We have talk homework with them the night before.

We do the big write and the kids love it! We've been doing it for about a year now and it seems to be working. This year we introduced the little write for those who couldn't cope with the time element and that seems to be having the desired effect too.
The Big Write games are good and the kids respond well to them - a good way of engaging pupils in grammar etc exercises.
Hope it works for you as well as it works for us!

I'm surprised about the candles too, Bubblesdream. It sounds like a recipe for disaster Confused

I've asked my kids and they all said that they have music playing, but no candles! (thankfully - my 7 year old is petrified of fire!)

It sounds very interesting. You'll have to keep us posted about how the children take to it. Smile

My school began the big writing in October, it's fantastic! I was the first person in my school to do it, the children had such a big build up towards it they showed so much respect and acted very grown up, the work that was produced was way above expectations. I felt extremely proud because I'd led the lesson on my own.
