Just been reading your blogs on crafting then spotted Jack-of-all-trades swearing! Storysacks! How dare you use that word! Didn't you mother ever tell you if she caught you swearing you'd have a bar of soap stuck in your mouth!
I know how you feel. i was involved a few years back in making 48 storysack. I personally made 24 (no boast intended Embarassed ). Did everything from knitting, felting, wood work and much more. It sure made me use my noggin. Unfortunately, I later found out, after leaving the school, that all of the sack had been dumped in the P.E shed never to be used again grr . Very disheartening hate-cry2 .

Forgot to mention that I decided to do one or two persinal storysacks to take to interviews with me. It's loads better than taking photographs and cuts down on explainations. One draw back is that it can be bulky to carry around. I pick simple stories that are easy to translate, adapt games from magazines and laminate everything that is paper or card based.

People appreciate the effort put into them and it shows them your skills. Rolling Eyes

why on earth would they dump them in the pe shed? I have worked in schools that would love to have storysacks!!!! I have only managed to make one and have found that getting the patterns etc for the toys for nowt is one of the hardest things. I have a collection now of premade soft toys that I have purchased from car boot sales now just waiting to be made into sacks!

don't know but can only assume that they were to much hassle to maintain. Sad I know expecially with all the work involved. It broke my heart but one good thing about it was the experience it gave me. I can actually run a storysack off in my sleep.

Strar-9, I've got a simple pattern of a croc, just let me find it! I don't think it will be too big so bare with me.

Here we go Star-9.
This pattern is from the Alan Dart collection of Noah's Ark.
It's knitted in DK so will not be very big. If you want it bigger knit with chunky or Suppa Chunky. It's basic stockinet stitch and moss stitch.

Top Body - make 1
Cast on 10 sts knit across these stitches in k1,p1. Do this for four rows.
Increase 1st at beg of next row. Pattern 1 row. Repeat the last two rows three more times (18sts). Patt 8 rows. Decrease 1st at beg and end of next row. Patt 3 rows. Repeat the last 4 rows three more times (10sts). Dec1st at begin and end of next ro. Patt 5 rows. Repeat the last 6 rows two more times (4sts). Cast of for tail tip.

Under body -make 1.
cast on 10sts and garter st 36 rows. Dec 1st at beg and end of next row. Garter st 5 rows. Repeat the last 6 rows two more times (4sts). Cast off for tail tip.

Head - make 1
cast on 18sts and st-st 2 rows.
Increase row: k5 (inc 1, k1) four times, k5 (22sts). St-st 5 rows.
1st decrease row: k5 (SKPO, k2 k2tog) twice, k5 (18sts)
Next row: purl
2nd dec row: k5, (SKPO, k2tog), twice, k5 (14sts)
Next row: purl
3rd dec row: k5, k2tog, SKPO, k5 (12sts)
St-st 7 rows.
Break off, leaving a long end. thread through, draw up and fasten off.

Legs -make 4
cast on 7st and st-st 9rows. Break off yarn and thread through st on needle, draw up and fasten off.

The pattern is knitted on 3mm needles and uses two shades of green (dark green for top and lighter green for underneath. the legs are knitted using darl green. to make the mouth - use a length of black thread and stitch a single straight st round the front of head. then embroider tiny vertical straight st over black yarn for teeth.

Hope this helps Star Very Happy

Rather than have a new thread that might be lost of time. Why not say what pattern you have in this thread and then members can PM you for it. Smile
