if the child signs you may find some one from The Deaf Association may be willing I know someone who works for them doing TV work and I know she would. They are usually keen to help. |

i have 2 students...one with an implant who doesnt sign.....and one with hearing aids who does sign
guess which one is at the most disadvantage?
my boss's son has just had an implant, and also signs to enable him to communicate effectively
i think the parents are putting him at a disadvantage by not signing, i hope they change their minds _________________

We use Makaton for a few pupils and lots of the kids are learning it. One teacher has decided to teach her class it's great. Could the 'class' be taught? I have come up against this before it is the parents not accepting their child's disability. They don't want him to appear different.Such a shame for the child. What about review meetings could it be brought up by someone else and discussed in the hope they see the benefits.I would still ring Deaf Association they may have some ideas as they have probably dealt with this problem(DVD) before. We haven't any hearing impaired children. The only one I knew had an unfortunate accident. |

Sorry catlady, just found this post.
Do you mean by fm receiver a device that links the teacher and pupil hearing wise, rather than a traditional hearing aid? If so they can now be attached to televisions in order to project the sound from them (therefore no need for subtitles)
Have you got a sensory impairments service in your area? They are very good at providing advice and resources. I have recently been on a course run by them for hearing and visual impairments and it was very good.
I could go on forever about this subject, but hubby wants dinner! |
