I am doing a PSHE lesson for the whole class and am being observed by my line manager. HELP!! Anyone got any tried and tested lesson ideas? I am thinking of something along the lines of 'living in a diverse world' or 'people who help us'. I was going to include a circle time but it's the activities that are bothering me. I've got to differentiate too. Cheers.Very Happy

What about having photos of people from different cultures mainly facial and ask the children to chose one from the middle of the circle and talk about why they chose it.You could double up with a few photos though you would probably get loads on Images.Different moods as well so they can talk about that.I think they are sad because......it could then lead into a discussion about 'living in a diverse world' It would take awhile too. Cheers for the ideas, I like the circle time ideas as I've got lots of pics at school I could use. We use SEAL but I'll have another look through. We have covered a lot of it already.

Thanks for the quick replies!! (I think I'll have some rescue remedy in the morning though - I go to pieces)

What age have you got to work with. I have a whole PSHE book that I use with lots of different ideas for a diverse world
I'll scan some stuff in if it's any good.

The stuff I have is for Ks2 One lesson on diversity involves scripts that people role play about different lifestyles in India, Spain,Russia and japan. The kids are put in teams with a particular country to answer questions on. Lots of questions relating to [the role play text are then mixed up and taken read out one at a time. group get a mark for a correct answer.

Do this with other countries and tot up the scores at the end for each team.

Alternatively you could have the whole class listening to the script on one particular country then give each team a list of question on what they have just heard, Together they try to answer as many questions as they can. then do the same for other countries.

I've done it with Y6 this way and it keeps everyone on task, busy, and working together and often creates a discussion before coming up with a group answer.

One way I differntiated this activity was by 'outcome'. I grouped the children in mixed ability groups and emphasised before the activity that the groups must ensure that every member of the group answered at least one of the questions. That way the low ability needed to listen and recall but didn't have to do any writing as the group chose someone from their group to be the scribe. Making the activity quite inclusive to all.
