Hiya

I did do a search but I couldn't find an answer to my question elsewhere on the forum - apologies in advance if I've missed it.

My friend has two teenagers with ASD and she wonders if there are any books etc available that might help them with the social and emotional side of things; in particular I think she means social skills and how to read people's emotions. Does anyone have any ideas about books or materials that she might be able to access for either/both?

Many thanks in advance! Very Happy

Ditto Dq I'll have alook later. There was a book written by a teenage boy with ASD sorry I can't remember the name of it I just remember him talking about it on tV awhile back.I recently went to a course delivered by a young woman who had ASD.She was brilliant so there might be something there I'll look later.

Luke jackson - freaks geeks and asperger's syndrome is the one Jack may be thinking of or in fact anything by Luke Jackson although they tend to be more about what ASD is from a young persons perspective rather than how to improve social skills. there are a few books about young people with AS also ficition but are good to help them know they arent alone, of the top of my head I can think of 'the blue bottle mystery', 'Haze' and 'of mice and aliens'

there is a really good one by a young man who eventually committed suicide (but we dont tell our pupils that) and I cant remember what its called but will have a look when Im back in school. it gives helpful hints and is phrased in a really good way for youngsters.
