Hi all
Really silly question (probably). I'm wondering if the usual margin of 10% on the word count still applies to the 'short answer questions' in Part 1. Or can we just answer the question and provided it doesn't go over the suggested 200 words it's acceptable?
Thanks! _________________

I would have thought that if a word count is stipulated, then the 10% rules apply, but I havent studied with OU. |

I would ask your tutor. I am doing ED209 but on my other course, SD226, the 10% rule DOESN'T apply!! |

Re-read the assignment booklet last night and it says each short part question in part 1 should not exceed 200 words. So I'd stick to that!
How are you finding the TMA? I've only just started it and haven't finished the reading yet :S |

I'm finding it a 'challenge'. You may have guessed (!!) that the word count is a problem; in Part 1 my answers to questions 1-4 are far too short and question 5 is far too long!! I'll be doing some work on it today and hope to get it finished. I hate coding though.

I'm also finding the word count tricky, as in I'm way under it on part 1!! Have only completed questions 1 and 2 so far but have notes for others. Not tackled 5 yet but can see that it will be a tough one. I don't see what they want us to write for 200 words. Maybe its jsut a very generous word count!
I'm working on it today, want to have it finished by tomorrow, thank God for half term |

That's why I was asking whether the word count was still 10%! I have never believed in waffling through an answer (believe it or not... ) and I think if you've answered the question that should be it. I wondered if the 200 was a maximum to stop those that DO waffle and that you don't have to take the whole word count. I might e-mail my tutor in a minute and see what she says. If I get an answer in time, I'll let you know.
Good luck with it though! _________________

Looking at mine from last year (if it is the same format) I had an overall word count of 1003 for my short answer Qs. I didn't get penalised for it.
Is Q5 about the Bobo doll study?
I hope you are enjoying the course. |

Yup - Bobo Doll and Child of our Time; the ethics of them replicating it. I got on my soapbox and had to cut back quite drastically...!
But yes, I am mainly enjoying the course, thanks. How's yours going? _________________

Sounds very much like me when I wrote it
My courses are keeping me very busy, which is why I haven't been about so much. I have 2 weeks off now so I can concentrate on study (and housework/gardening etc) during the day and be able to enjoy a bit of TAChat time at night - bliss
[hay I may even cheat and take a brain break and visit during the day ]
I am glad you are enjoying the course |

I have only just read this thread, having done and sent mine a couple of days ago!!
I stuck to under 1000 words for part 1, but was definitely over the guidance count on the last question and under on some of the others
Too late now- I hope it'll be OK!
I kept reading all the comments on the OUSA conference and got more and more baffled, so just did my own thing!
I am slightly ahead at the moment, and as we're off for 2 weeks for our 'delayed' Easter, I now want to get on with TMA 3
Good luck !

Thanks madmum, and to you too. Nice to be a bit ahead - I'm at that point (apart from being a bit behind with my TMA until yesterday that is!).
Which option are you considering for TMA03? I'm tempted by Option 2, but need to read up first so might change my mind. _________________
