I've been "charged" with improving both of these, to 10 children, by KS2 SAT's - May this year (!!!!)

Does anybody have any ideas for quick fixes that I can use to help these children? I am at a loss as to what I can do in such a short time.

I will have the children for a max of 30 mins twice a week and would like to make it both fun and interesting.

Any ideas gratefully received!!

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'm not sure what you mean. Is that following lines and patterns etc?
Do you think handwriting patterns would be suitable for Year 6?

I'll try anything though.

Keep spelling to a pattern throw in one difficult word and teach then to spell it,write it in the air, picture it and spell it backwards. They love this and it gives them confidence.Try elephant first.Handwriting could be the spelling pattern ttwo jobs in one.It also focuses phonic blends-phonemes, diagraphs etc.

well i work with older students, some who cant read and write and have used patterns before

also did root words and prefixes and suffixes the other day and they were competing to get the longest word, amazing what they can spell when they can add on

also syllables ..break the word into smaller words

and using cursive so the pen stays on the page and the writing flows...

Thanks so much.

I was definitely going to use/ encourage a cursive, fluent script and I had thought about using spelling patterns.

When I "do" my spelling group, I encourage the phonetic approach as far as possible. I hadn't thought about morphing words with prefixes and suffixes - that's a great idea - thanks.

I had thought about using this link:

I feel that it is a bit late to be doing all this but have got to give it the best shot I can.
