reading this at the moment, not exactly enjoyable, although i am enjoying it; It tells of two womens struggle in Afghanistan, how women are treated by the Taliban during the war and in general. It has just won an award in the Galaxy book club awards

It was full of real shockers too, wasn't it?! Mind you, I think in part I was very naive before about the realities of Kabul - you would see it on the news, but you don't somehow get a full picture, do you? Shocked Does that make sense, or am I just daft? Confused

i agree with that, you would only get the full story if you were there, or knew or met someone from there. I think even the stories will be 'sanitised' for our reading too, if they were full of the real horror we wouldnt be able to read it

i think the most shocking part i was just reading with my mouth open, i couldnt believe it was happening Sad

Just finished reading it this morning. Very descriptive, emotive and definitely a book that makes you stop and think.
