I saw this book for the first time today so haven't applied it yet - but I can see where it can be used and have picked out one child in particular who will benefit. It uses a simple 5 point scale to show the child how their response or behaviour is appropriate or not. For example on the Talking scale a 5 is screaming and a 1 is not talking. Scales can be individually made for the children and blanks are there to be copied. The one I like in particular is a behaviour one which has one column for what happens, one for how I feel and one for what I can do all of which is worked out with the child.

5 might be hitting/ screaming/ kicking - feel really angry/hot/red - phone mum/go home

4 might be feel like hitting - cross - go talk to Mrs JD

down to 1 might be playing with my friends - happy/ relaxed - try to stay like this

I would say not just for autistic children but a behaviour resource for others too.

This is from the American Amazon site and allows you to see several pages inside the book
