hi, im thinking of trying to get funding for getting my hlta status but i have a few questions.
1, how long does it take to complete? (roughly)
2, how much written work is there to do?
im currently working full time as a ta 3, am studying through open uni for a psychology degree and am a single mum. i already feel like im trying to be superwoman!!! am a bit worried about the workload and stuff so any advice would be greatly appreciated
thanks

well i did the 3 day training route. first day was in january and yesterday i had my assessment so all done. so aboout 3 months in all. as for work, my taks were 11000 words roughly in all, then theres the file of evidence to gather. i didnt actually find it too time consuming. each task took about 2 hours to write in full. once u have your head round it, its not too bad.
having said that, i have probably failed lol |

I did the 3 day route too.It is time consuming and if you are already trying to bee superwoman it might be better to wait a little while till the degree is finished. Are you whole class teaching because they are very strict on this and will not take anyone who isn't.The Tasks are on the TDA website and you do one indidvidual, one group and a whole class then Task 4 has 5 parts which you can use for smaller write ups although I wrote two more whole class ones.We were recommende to do two or more.I found it more work than Wendy but then I always do things the hard way and I had a lot of work in my file. |

Also did the 3 day route, satrted May last year, had results in December. you do have to get your head around what is expected and the standards.
would agree with Jack, if you are already feeling stretched i would be tempted to wait, there is a certain ammount of stress involved too. |

I found it took much longer than 2 hours per task to write. I was constantly editing or rewording things to try to claim extra standards. It was very, very stressful particularly as i had to submit just after christmas.
Two people gave up on my course: one had never taken whole classes, the other was trying to juggle the HLTA tasks with a foundation degree.
Sorry if that sounds a bit negative, but it is just my opinion. Best to go in with your eyes open, but good luck with whatever you decide. _________________

I too did the 3 day route and found it did require alot of time to write up and edit the tasks as well as hunting around for evidence.
Don't get me wrong it was worth doing especially when you get your results but it is a very different way of presenting what you do, and does require time to get your head around how to write and evidence all the standards.
I started in October submitted my file end of Jan had my visit in March and heard April.
Best of luck with whatever you decide. |
