Remember we need your thoughts on topics we could discuss. You can list ideas in this thread and we'll use them one at a time. Please don't reply to them here.

1. Do parents interfere in the running of the school far too much nowadays. Or do you think that giving them so much say is the right way to go.

2. It seems to me that sometimes PC over comes commonsense and that we waste a lot of time making sure that little Timmy has his shoe laces tied otherwise he might trip over them and scrape his knee. A slight exaggeration but I'm sure that you know what I mean. Would you like to go back to the time when children could climb trees, splash in puddles and play conkers at school.

How about: is it time to end the Head Teacher's automatic position on the Governing Body?

The basis for the argument is the head is employed by the governing body who also have a supervisory responsibility for the head teacher. Problem head teachers can exert too much power on the governing body making it difficult for the governing body to do their job properly.

In many other organisations the manager is hired to tend to the day to day running with the strategy and decision making being made by the equivelant governing body/management committee. They still attend meetings to give reports and to offer advice as required.

Or does the different setup and unique status of schools means the head teacher must be part of the governing body?

On a similar vein, are our governing bodies fit for purpose? If not how do we change this? I'll leave my comments to see if the topic comes up.

From Tiki. Good one George. I think I might have a bit to say about that.

stars thread

Does the punishment fit the crime. Is exclusion the easy option or a last resort. If a child does something wrong at school do we go out of our way to find the reason. This can be difficult, children often say we told Mr/Mrs Whoever but they didn't listen to me or didn't believe me. Some children go out of their way to get others in trouble. How do we cope with them. Do we follow up any punishments and see if there are any repercussions.

I was impressed that then punishment stars son got fitted the crime. Does sitting in a room doing homework or worksheet do any good. What sort of punishments are handed out at your schools for the different KSs

remember that these suggestions aren't answered here but when they might come up as a topic on TOTW. Very Happy
