Hi everyone, I am currently on my last assignment unit 1 and finding it hard going so if anyone out there can give me any guidance I would really appreciate it. I have done most of the assignment (I think) but am still working on the B and A criteria. The assignment was doing obs on a child with behavioral difficulties and then describing the needs and strategies and activities to support this child, which I have done. I have described his needs as lacking in social skills and not understanding the behavior expected from him and to develop his concentration and listening skills (he finds it very difficult to stay on task) and develop his self esteem. My tutor has told me I need to back up my work with learning theorists and this is where I am struggling a bit. If any one can give me any ideas I would be really grateful.

Hi there

The sort of theorists you need to slot into your assignment are:

Bruner - scaffolding
Vygotsky - zone of proximal development/ZPD
Skinner - behaviourist theory, positive reinforcement
Bandura - social learning theory

You should have covered these at college, and most Level 3 books like Burnham and Jones etc will have information on them.

Hope this helps. What sort of activites/strategies have you suggested? If you post them on here I could try to match up some appropriate theory (I did psychology at uni).

thanks sarah_m_ , the activities i choose were an adult led roleplay and a circle time activity dealing with emotions eg. happy, sad, angry.
the strategies i choose to encourage independent learning were positive reinforcement and using a visual aid such as a sand timer to stay on track.
