We think there will be over 35 children in year 2 next year. Can they all be in the same class is this allowed???
The class has 1 teacher and 1 full time TA will thyejust put another TA in there or will the class have to be split and have 2 teachers????
I don't know the rules.just a little worried as my DD is currently in year 1 and will be in that big class next year?

Not sure I think there is restrictions for KS1 but not KS2.I once worked iin a school were there was 36 yr 1's.The teacher had support one morning a wek and they put me in there as a student for two days a week. Istayed with her for 6 months although I was supposed to be in other year groups too.I spent about two weeks each in the others and the rest of the year with her and we have remained friends ever since. Very Happy
The school I am at now made a decision to limit the classes to 28 unless they couldn't do anything else so some are small classes of 16/18

Don't think there is a limit, altho I think the recommended max class size is 32. Think if the classroom can take it then there is nothing stopping school having that many children.

We have a similar sized class which has 3 year groups in it. There are various 'rules' that govern the number of children in a class. Normally the LEA gives each school a total for each year group that you are allowed to have. Schools can differ from each other in the overall class size depending whether it's a mixed year class or a year specified class. In KS! there shouldn't be more than 30 in a class. No such limit applies to KS2 at the moment so far as I know. Even if you reach the recommended level for each year group, if a parent appeals the chances are they'll win and you'll get a larger year group than normal.

If the school budget will stand it, the HT and Governors might allocate funds to employ an extra teacher temporarily to split a class. We've done that when funds have allowed and we've had an extra large class. At the moment we've a small recep/Y1 class and a small Y2/3 class but a large year Y4,5,6 class. Over all, we've not enough children to bring in the funds to employ an extra teacher and retain the TAs we have. It would be a case of an extra teacher or no TAs. The HT had chosen to teach the Y6 himself in the mornings which helps.

At our school KS1 and foundation have a 30 maximum. KS2 no limit at all. My daughter is in yr3 (ks2) and she has currently 34. The teacher hates it.

We've had a school close down nearby so we are fully loaded at the moment with a waiting list of about 200 pupils

We are about to burst Shocked

The LEA consider the total floor area, the available free floor area, the total volume of the room, exits, ventilation system, and various other things such as the use of the room. They might also consider the age of the children but I'm not sure. I don't how much it differs if the classroom in a mobile classroom.

Our other alternative fro year 1 and 2 is to mix them,we will have 27 year 1 and 35 year 2,so technically this would mean 3 classes of 21 each???
Would the school do this?
