hi i've just started the new nvq 3 and i'm finding it a total nightmare. i only started it in march -april time and i've been told the whole thing has to be completed by july. the work load is immense and i cant keep up with it. has anybody else managed to do it in a short time span. also my assesor emailed me and told me that maybe im not cut out to a level 3 if i find the work hard, i should know most of it and shouldnt need to do much research. i have been a TA for 3 years now and it was my HT that suggested i do a 3 and not a 2 because of my experience! i'm totally stressed out about it any advice welcome.

not a very supportive statement from your tutor!!!

is this through a college? it does seem a quick turnaround.

i would say to stick with it try to get in touch with others on the course and support each other, as well as the support available on here

I did mine in 7 months with an extremely supportive tutor. I think she is being unrealistic in thinking that it can be completed in 3 months. Most people take around 12-24 months to do theirs.

Thanks you guys you've cheered me up no end. No it's not through collage its county council. I have thought about putting in a complaint about it, the whole reason i chose the nvq was so that i could take my time with it. i wish you could read the emial she sent me, i was close to tears she said i lack experience in the classroom and if i was doing a proper nvq i would not be good enough to pass and i am not working at a high enough level! bit confused by it all really all the staff in my school disagree with her, but i do know this much, it wont be finished by july and i think she's kicking up because she knows this and it means more work for her. i dont feel able to ask her for help any more so that worries me. thanks again for your replies glad i could get it off my chest. does anyone know of any books or info about the swis/nvq3 that might help and any useful research sites?

I did mine through county, and they do rush you through. It will more than likely to do with funding, they apply for fresh funding each school year. However this is not your fault. You should have had some kind of assessment and disucssion with her before commencing the course, at that point she should have made you aware of the impossible deadline and assessed your skills and expertise to see if you have the knowledge and experience to be able to complete it in that period of time. I think she is acting unproffessionally.

I started mine in November and finish this week. I only went to college every other week. So it has been hard work.

But it's all done, all units complete, presentation done. hand in file on Thursday.

Initially it's lots of work but if you read your kb properly you can cross reference soooooooooo much. In some cases I just needed to add a sentence or paragraph to something I'd already done.

kb, presentation??? whats all that about? i avnt been told about these yet!!! just started me level 3 helpppppppp!!!!!!!

kb = knowledge base
presentation = everyone gave a little presentation on a specific subject.

HI guys thank you for all your replies but it looks as though i'll have to quit the swis 3 course, the work load is justs to much and i dont have the time to do it. i've only managed to do one of the mandatory units and i havent finished that yet and i have to finish the whole lot by July! its totally impossible. ive had really rude and stressy emails from my assesor and felt so let down i havent managed to look at the work since. in the mail she told me i was incapable of doin an nvq and if i was finding the work difficult then i would certainly fail a normal nvq. just felt crap about myself and so i'm ditching it and i will perhaps take it up another time.Thanks for all your support x

that doesnt sound good, she should be supporting you not sending emails like that

is there anyone you can complain to? or mention it to you school so they dont use that provider again

and your assessor shouldnt be saying 'fail' as you cannot fail an NVQ as it is about showing what you do and have done in your job. If you dont compete all the units you should get a statement with units that you HAVE completed

Have you still got the emails I would collect them and send them to her line manager.Are any of the others having difficulties? If so, get them on side and complain.NVQ were not meant to be done this way they were meant to be flexible.

That's appalling. She needs reporting.

If you let her get away with it then you can be pretty sure she will carry on bullying other students.

who on earth needs an assessor like that?!
