Hi!
I am in the process of completing my forms to apply for 3 day assessment for Spetember. I hope to be doing it with another TA, although at present she has less than 2 years TA experience, but extensive experience in other settings.
We disagree at present on whole class teaching, as we both do it if our usual class teacher is absent, but not, at present, on a regular basis.
I think there is going to be the possibility of it being a regular occurence from Sept due to staffing changes, but is that likely to be enough to be accepted on the training?

I think so, it has to be on several occasions. Mine was secondary yr 9 science for a pregnant teacher to attend anti natal. Once a week from Sept to Dec. Also a few odd occasions. Assessor did not ask any more questions for that standard!! |

I do it twice a week and step in for emergency help.Taught a class last week that I had never worked in didn't know half the classes names and a topic I had never covered at short notice(lunchhour) It went well and I really enjoyed myself.
It does have to be fairly regular even once a fortnight would be enough. My assessor asked both the CT and the HT.
Why don't you give them a ring and ask I found them very helpful with any queries. |

We were told that we have to have taken at least two lessons without the presence of a teacher in order to be assessed for HLTA status.
My question is this... On the application for funding form, it states that 'in the last 6 months' you have taken a class without a teacher being present. Does that mean that I cannot submit evidence that I took a class a year ago? I even have the plans and a statement from the teacher about it all and she is prepared to be interviewed to the effect, but now that I've read that it's '6 months' I am wondering...
And if not, is HLTA an ongoing thing or is it like the NVQ where you have to wait for ages for it to come around again?
Sorry to ask so many questions - I did look for the answers but I can't find them...
Thanks! _________________

Last question first -depends on the area. There were three options a year in our area.
Whole class teaching must be a regular occurance and people on our information day pre course were told at least 6 times before the start. |

Hi Medusa,
I had my day 3 of preparation for HLTA yesterday, so know what you mean about the confusion!
I think the following is correct :-
1) All evidence has to be within the last 12 months.
2) Whole class teaching has to be on "more than one occaision" - I had not done any in my current setting when I applied, but have now done four lessons to cover the science teacher I work with, and there'll be more in Septmeber - my preparer has said this is fine.
3) In our area the preparation days are on as as 'needed basis' - i.e when enough have been accepted they run the course.
Hope this helps! |
