Hi all

Am all new to this. Have my first 3 lessons next week, so want to make it fun as poss....for group of year 4s. Any suggestions?? Starting with my speaking and listening, then reading, then writing...3 consecutive days. Plenty of resources at school, but always open to ideas to, well, reassure myself others would do stuff like i'm thinking.

Thanks all in advance. Very Happy

Thrass isn't a scheme that's normally used on an individual basis but as a whole school or KS1 program and taught by the CT. Yes, you can use some of the games and use the books for guided reading etc. but it isn't used the same way as you would use say ELS,ALS or FLS etc.

How is your school using the scheme.

Yep, have spent the morn looking at all her folders and childrens folders. Tomorrow i hope i can pop my head in someone elses group and see how they work it.

It's a tad clearer, but was talking to another TA of many yrs experience and she said she doesn't get it!!

I'll get there! Have my 3 lessons almost ready, as wanted them out the way incase i have interview and can concentrate on that over wkend without any other distractions in my head.

Mind you, if interviews are monday....er i haven't heard anything yet.

Thrass is used in a similar way to Jolly Phonics as a phonics program. I believe it started in Australia. You'll find a lot of info if you google.com thrass. You might like to look at these online video clips. It should give you some idea on how Thrass works.

I'm surprised that you are using thrass without having any training. We all went on a 1 day training course, the CTs a 2 day course. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful but I haven't used Thrass in a while. Someone who is using it at the moment might be able to help you. What have you actually been told to do?

Smile Hi I am a qualifed TA level 3 and have been our school since 1995.
I have taken many different groups of children for Teaching Handwriting
Reading and Spelling Skills (THRASS). I would photocopy your phoneme sheets Aa Bb Cc etc and also use the the handwriting sheets with the children. When they listen to the audio tape the children have to point to each initial /long vowels phomenes and get the children to repeat what the man says on the tape. You could use their magic pencils in the air and form the letters in the air. Remind the children our tongues play a huge part in letter/words and making sentences.
Part of the tape goes something like this AB ABC ABCDEFG repeat HI HIJ HIJKILMN repeat etc the children soon pick the song up.
I taught the children about vowels, consonants, letter/number sequence. What do a sentence need? 1, capitial letter at the beginning of a sentence 2, full stop at the end. 3, finger spaces and the most important part it MUST make sense!
When I used to take the groups we had great fun and though having fun the children didn't realise they were working hard!

There is another fantastic programme which came from America. It is called Success for All (SFA for short). Our school has had a huge success with this programme.
Sorry if I have prattled on lol! I do frimly believe Every Child Matters!
