When alot of the TA's start bickering and sniggering behind other TA's backs and slagging other TA's off as they have to start fighting for their jobs!!!!!

Alot of us TA's have worked with the same teacher and same year group the last couple of years, some or most of us are really happy staying with the same teacher/year group, but a couple of them want to change and are starting to slag off the teacher they work with so they get moved.

When it comes down to it, is it the teachers choice or the TA's choice where they work????
I believe the HT works it all out, as its a hard job in our school with mixed classes and not enough teachers , but do the teachers get a say in who they want???

My teacher has said she'd love to have me working for her again next year but she is a popular teacher and lots of others want to work with her too???

I just wish others would stop slagging people off though or does it happen everywhere??? It makes me so upset that some of the adults can behave worse than the children!!

you should have had a performance review. it would have been then when you were asked what you would like to do next term.

then the HT will have the final say.

it depends on how good your school are at listening to you and whether or not they think you would be good at the role you are asking for.

I've changed my role loads of times. That way I feel I gain more experience. It also shows where my weaknesses & strong points are.

I know definately now that I love SEN.

Haha yes we all should have had performance review 2 months ago, they're just getting round to asking now. Mine is next week. I am just starting my nvq too so in a way think I should stay with what I have just learn as have only been there a year, but then if they change me to another year group will I get more experience????
I don't mind its the other TA's who think they should boss some of us other TA's around. One girl has been in the same year group for 9 years!!! But she loves it.

Performance review Confused Never had one. Just told that if I want more hours now is the time to put a bid in. Lucky me. I am sure if I was doing something wrong it would soon be brought to my attention.

You are right, I have noticed a bit of whispering and manouvering going on. Can't be bothered to get involved.

Our 2 teacher school is shrinking to a one teacher school next year. 17 pupils from P1-7 and 1 full time teacher and one half time teacher. With the high level of ASN we have the heady requested 2 ASN auxiliaries - and has been given one (me). As 2 pupils require 1-1 and several others need support daily for some tasks - think I'm going to be spread a bit thin? The LS teacher's hours have been cut from 2 days to 1/2 day with her other hours going to the other school she works in(although some of you will know I won't complain about that!).

Thank goodness we don't have that problem. 4 TA's in our school, all contracted for each class.
No worries, I know where i'll be again.
Did have this problem in my last school and it was awful! So I hear its started there too.
Hope it doesn't get you to down x

We have no say in it and neither do the teachers we go where the HT thinks that we can do the best job,

sometimes even have to change key stages. HT believes it stops us procrastinating!!!!!!!!

Teachers are in the same boat they can be put anywhere and never more than 2 years in the same year group.

What fun!!!!!!!

Have always been in schools where the HTs decide, quite rightly, where the staff are allocated. They have to have the whole school in mind rather than peoples personal preferences. However, a good HT would consider peoples likes/dislikes abilities etc. (Put me in Yr grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Wink )

In my current school staff stay where they are, Teachers and TAs . Obviously, the 1:1s move with the kids.

TAs having a choice??? Shocked No chance! We go where the HT says we're needed most! Personal preferences don't come into it. Sad

The teachers used to decide (fight) over it with SMT getting most of the organising. The HT does it now.I don't think ay TA or teacher gets a choice although he did ask me in PM meeting if I had a preference.Myself and another two TA's do PPA so I presumed he was referring to that. Some TA's have started saying they don't want to move particularily one who has always worked in three classes. The rest of us that get moved all over the plass think it wouldn't hurt for her to get out of her comfort zone but I doubt it will happen.

Bit different in senior school, we are faculty based and our strengths are looked at before we are allocated. Our problem is the allocation of hours, its about now that you have to put in whether you want more, less, same, different days. Also, its not really until September that we will know the exact timetable and how we are placed in the week. All I know is that I wouldn't like the job of sorting it out.

I've been very lucky having a specified out of class role working with individual child or groups of children either at lower ability or gifted and able level. Our HT has tried to keep the general TAs with the same CT each year although the 1:1 have moved with their child. Occasional we do move around for the odd thing depending on illnesses/training etc. It's certainly easier knowing where you'll be the next school.

Although I can see next few years being quite stressful with fewer children coming into school there will be less money available to keep up the staff/children ratio we have at the moment.

Hi!

The teacher I've worked with for 5 years is leaving at the end of term Sad
Consequently, I am moving to a new year group, new key stage and new classroom Smile . The room hasn't been used as a classroom for a few years so there's loads to do to get it ready. Confused
On top of that, I have to train a new teacher to work my way! Wink

We have no such problems. In secondary, we all have our strengths and generally we support those areas. We have no problems with hours either cos we are all full time all year round.
