I find that children who confuse b and d write them both in the same way. i.e. by drawing the circle first and then the line. Practice drawing b with the straight line first and d with the circle first and a flick at the end like a dogs tail.
I also use A4 posters at the front of the class with a picture of a bat or a dog next to the letters.
