Just wondering if any one had some effective ways of teaching this. Have tried 'bed', finger forming b and d with right and left hands, worksheets etc etc. any new ideas welcome as always!!

b - draw a picture of a bat (the stick of the b) hitting a ball (the bottom part of the b) - the bat must hit the ball

d - use the phrase 'close the door' - the bottom of the d is like a letter c for close, the stick is the door

my daughter has this problem.

she holds up both hands making the b & d with her thumb and finger. that way she can work out which way the letter should go. Hope that makes sense.

I get them to say it as they form the letters. I like the 'close the door' one.

I find that children who confuse b and d write them both in the same way. i.e. by drawing the circle first and then the line. Practice drawing b with the straight line first and d with the circle first and a flick at the end like a dogs tail.

I also use A4 posters at the front of the class with a picture of a bat or a dog next to the letters.
