I am thinking of applying for the foundation degree, but will have to cut my hours at work to do it.

Am I right in thinking I will be entitled to a student loan to pay for the course fees and some extra, just like a fulltime 18 year old student?

Thanks

I think that you will only be entitled to certain things if you are a full time student. That is dependent on how many modules you take a year, so I was full time for my first year. I recieved a loan and a grant. Check that out to make sure though. Smile

Thanks Susie,
I checked with the Uni today and it looks like it counts as FT, so I should get a loan!

Hi Kate, just a thought but have you approached your LEA? My FD (finished this year - Phew) was funded by LEA bursary at a local Uni (I'm in Essex). It's worth an enquiry as that way you won't have to pay it back!

However you fund it - best of luck with your studies. It is hard work but very rewarding!

I'm doing the first part towards a FD and my school is paying part of the fees. Its worth asking them especially if they believe they are going to benefit from you new found knowledge.

By the way be careful your student loan is not free, many of my friends got caught out on this with their children going to Uni, as soon as your salary hits a certain amount they start to claim it back, plus if you apply for a mortgage etc they will take this into accout as an outgoing.

Good luck on your course.
