Hi everyone. I'm a new kid on the block. Have just moved to Salisbury after working for a couple of years in the Hampshire school library service. Am keen to try and get a PT TA job while my kids are at primary school. Am going to offer to do some voluntary work at a local school and while my kids settle do a basic TA course. Salisbury College doesn't appear to offer any TA courses nor do any other colleges within a 30 mile radius so I wondered about doing a distance learning course??

Can anyone recommend a distance learning course?The UK Distance Learning College do the ABC Level 2 Certificate for Teaching Assistants which includes a 60 hour (min) school placement under the guidance of a qualified teacher and costs £295. The other distance learning courses are either a lot more expensive or don't include any school placement.

have a look in the Professional Development/CPD area Kelsey as there are lots of courses at various levels and prices such as NVQ/OU/BTEC and Cache etc

it may be worth speaking to your LEA as well as they can recommend the courses for your area and let you know the minimum requirements for their TAs too
