Yes it is it was on BBC news.

Star you do not have to be told by your Unison rep! If you voted to strike you should be out.

To be honest you should really be out anyway if your union calls you out -that is the whole point of joining one we expect their support and so should support them.I 'm sure people will accept the pay rise if we get it but if not enough people go out then we wont which is what happened last time.I am not a big union person or a Rep but I feel if we moan about not getting paid enough bohoo then we should be prepared to go out. Rolling Eyes Gets off soap-box.

I'm in a dilemma too!

Want to strike and believe that we are not paid enough anyway, for all that we do in school but can I afford to lose £100?

Only 3 of us in the union, 1 definate yes, 1 definate no and then theres me?

Yes, you will lose the equivalent of 2 days of your pay. 2/5ths of your weekly wage.

Yes agree with True.I work the full day all but 1/2hr on the Thursday and I have not counted it up because it would be quite a bit. If we stand together we might make a difference. All our staff in Unison have agreed to go out today and it was not by any coercion.

If you are in Unison and you break the strike you are a scab, simple as that, do not belly ache about pay or being there for the children. The majority have vited for strike action. If you dont like it go join the GMB or some other gutless Union.

Johns I thinks that is rather hard of you

It's a very hard decision for a lot of TAs. The money they will have deducted for being on strike will take a long time to replace. We're never going to get the sort of increase the tanker drivers recently had however much we deserve it. The poorly paid are usually the most dedicated at their jobs and I for one would prefer to have been in at school at this time of year. I will be on strike because I do belong to the union but I hardly think that you can call the ballot an overall success when so few of us voted.

Wehave some staff that are leaving too and it is difficult. We had a school trip and a fun evening planned. It is adifficult desicion for some people and they don't want to let the kids down after all johns it isn't the kids fault.

Anyone who is a single parent and who will be financially strapped for cash eg can't feed their kids can apply for assistance from the union.

I make no apologies for my comments. If this was an action for womens votes would you all be whinging and whining? NO, this is an action against exploitation and low pay, traditional bedfellows for Local Government workers who are mainly women. The suffragetts would be rolling in their graves!

Personally i didnt join Unison for this. I joined - praps selfishly some might say for support if i ever needed it with regard to my actual job and not what i get paid for doing it.

And...£100 is a hell of a lot for me to lose at the moment. I'm not going to make that up.

Given the state of the economy i cant see that the Government will give in at this precise time. A pay increase will just hike up inflation. And that will help none of us.

I think as a TA working in education we get a pretty good deal compared to alot of local government workers. Who else gets 14 weeks holiday a year? Pay is but one strand of our conditions.
