in mine there is next to nothing.

it makes me very angry that teaching staff are duly observed twice a year and we get nothing. how on earth are we meant to develop if we never get any feedback. Oh sorry - the feedback we do get is from the written notes we keep re each child we support.

i would dearly love to be observed for example.

it would seem that no-one in our school could really give a stuff about support staff.

i feel very undervalued and unappreciated.

One child who i have been daily supporting for the past year has made excellent progress. a changed child even. It' s a team effort surely. a mid day superviser has been reading with him every day too. But who gets the praise? well its not me and nor is it the Mid day superviser...i wonder who that leaves you with?

at the moment i will be observed once a year, can be peer observed if someone wants

all staff have an appraisal at the end of every academic year ( this was on Monday) and asked about any training needs so can then request courses of training if i want, or something may be suggested by my line manager if he/she wants me to undertake something

Same as you Catbells - nothing.

We all had an interview/appraisal with the HT 4 years ago and we were all regraded, our hours fixed, made permanent if necessary. We were even asked what courses we would like to do and what areas we would like to develop. But.............. nothing since then.

We are not able to go on courses either. A friend (a teacher) and I did a years training 4 years ago and we are expected to have refreshers every term. She is allowed to go, I'm not. How does that work - she needs cover, I don't. She even offered to alternate with me but that wasn't acceptable either.

We used to have TA meetings so we could at least discuss things and ask questions but these stopped about 3 years ago when the then DH left. Our Senco offered to run them and to use them for training but this offer was declined!

I have never been in a job where I don't have an annual appraisal or access to relevant training courses. The teachers seem to be out on courses all the time.

Twice a year!!! Our teachers must have at least 6! times as many observations as that. We however have none, and this year that has included those of us who cover PPA. I hate being observed, but feel that this is ridiculous in the extreme. Confused

Haven't been observed since I did STAC. Not even for HLTA.
However I can go on courses (in my own time) other course are to be negotiated depending on who my pupils are.I have been given a budget to cover courses for PPA this year.Just missed out because there was some courses I wanted to do on Saturdays but they were over or fully booked by the time I had my PDM Crying or Very sad I couldn't afford to pay for them myself.Never mind there is always next year.I shall be booking quickly.
I completed my tasks HLTA and ICT so will have to think of something new probably more ICT Rolling Eyes might do a language.

we have an annual performance review and support staff meetings every term .We have staff meeting every 3 weeks .We have to attend all INSET days and have a fair bit of in house training every term and also courses based on pupils in our class ( SEN needs etc ) School willing to pay for us to study NVQ etc . Actually sometimes we have too much CPD !!! But its a world away from my previous school so i can`t complain really .

Our whole department is being reviewed.

I've just been asked what CPD do I want/like. As I am already doing a course I've put that down as a continuation of learning, so that's not a problem. However, its the in house stuff that's got be thinking what level of development are they looking at - training on the database, regular TA meetings, how to use a interactive whiteboard.

If I don't know what goes on and what they expect from me, how will I know whether I need training or development in it? Catch 22.

Plus, I don't quite trust them as they aren't tell me everything, I just keep being asked odd questions on how I spend my non school time ect. I'm only an H2 point 3 on the scale and to be honest I know my course will take me to higher qualified level and they obviously would like to use 'my skills' elsewhere in the school. I have this feeling that they want to get something for nothing - no grade increase or extra money. I feel as if I'm caught between a rock and a hard place - go for lots of extra training, as I believe the more I know the better I will be at my job, which is all I want or sit back and see what comes out of this review.
