Hey Everyone!

I am being made full-time next year but this will mean that I will have to hand in my notice at an after school club, that I have worked at for the past 2 years. I have alot of good friends there and feel sad to leave but know that I cant do 2 jobs anymore because I wont be able to fit it in.

I have to give a week's notice. I am unsure if to hand my notice in on the 5th week of the summer holidays (as we work through the hols) or if to hand it in sooner so that they can begin finding someone else for September. I don't want to leave them without anyone but feel that when I announce I am leaving they might treat me differently, as although I am good friends with them all, when a previous member of staff left for a new job, it was rather awkward in the time leading up to her leaving if you get what I mean.

Any advice about the situation would be great,

Thanks in advance,

Bobette x

As long as you give them the 1 weeks mandatory notice that's ok. Which means you have to hand in your resignation 8 days before you are due to go so that they have 7 clear days notice.

There is no problem with handing it in earlier as long as you state the effective date from which you want to terminate your employment.

I think it might be a nice gesture to give them plenty of warning. I'm sure that they will be pleased that you'll be having a full time job and will understand the reason for your resignation. They are more likely be upset if you don't give them any warning.

Good luck with the new job. Very Happy

Well I finally did it on Friday!! I was soooo nervous it was unbelivable but I'd written in my letter the reasons why I was leaving and how much fun I'd had working there etc etc. My manager was upset to say the least but thanked me for giving them plenty of time to find someone else and said that she was gona miss me so much!! Aww!!

So I'm off for 2 weeks, then I'm working for the last 4 weeks of the hols and then I'm leaving! Really looking forward to September though because I will actually be off during the holidays with everyone else instead of working my butt off! Yippeeeeeeee dance

Assistant Head at other school where I'm being made full-time keeps pestering me about going into teaching but I'm putting it off for another year at least! I really love being a TA and don't feel ready yet to take all the pressure and responsibility, maybe when I'm a level 3 I will take the plunge and do it!

Thanks for all your support and advice everyone and here's to a well-earned rest for us all this summer
