Really pleased that my efforts/talents have been noticed but.....

The head has asked me to shadow the Music Co-ordinator with another teacher (she is Keystage 1and I am Keystage 2). He said he would sort
out 'time' for me to do this but should I be expecting just overtime (i.e payment at my usual rate for attending music planning meetings ) or
should I be being paid at a higher rate (or is that even possible?).

Money isn't really an issue...I love it so much I would probably do it for free....but I don't want to end up feeling taken advantage of?

Any advice is greatly received.

if its just shadowing then this would probably constitute as part of your PDR and would be at your normal rate, it they then expect you to take classes then it should be at HLTA rate

If you are shadowing, then as Summer has said, it will be at your normal rate. Usually you'll be released from your normal duties for a while.

Although, again as summer has mentioned, you should be paid a higher rate for taking music lessons more often than not you won't be. I don't but I've never pushed it mainly because I teach musical instruments and we've very few staff who can do this. If I said I wouldn't do it for the money the children would miss out. Plus I enjoy doing it.

Thanks for comments. I spoke to Head about what it involved but he was
vague (end of yearitus!).

He did say he suspected I would end up running it for Keystage 2 (song practice, whole school singing and musical performances) plus 'supporting' teacher in developing how music is taught in class.

I am hoping to gain HLTA status in the coming year but doesn't there need to be a vacancy to be employed at that level?

gaining the qualification doesnt guarantee being paid at that level, it would be up to the HT to promote you to HLTA if there was a vacancy or if he felt the role you had warranted it
