|
|
Went to an interview for nursery assistant in a neighbouring village school which seems ages ago now and got a letter saying "unfortunately I wasn't successful" then couple of weeks later the HT phoned and said a job had come up working in year 2 and was I interested. Its totally great hours 8.45-2.30 5 days.
Been through and met the teacher who has only been with the school for a year covering PPA time and she has now got a class of her own and I will be working with her am and another teacher pm. I asked if there was anything is should prepare for or read up on (feel totally unprepared and not sure what to expect, school have not issude me with antyhing other than CRB formd and health form) and she said I will mainly be working on language and literacy in the mornings (they have started phonics) and helping another teacher in the afternoons with topics one of which is Florence Nightingale so gonna read up on her.
Has anyone anyone ideas on anything I can prepare for, is there a websight with phonics only know the basics and thats only through my own child bringing school work home. Where I volunteered the nursery had only just started bits with the oldest children so not very confident at this.
I am really pleased with myself after two years of fitting volunteering in with work, college, family etc I feel I've earned it and its a break finally for me after sooooo many interviews but as start time comes closer the excitment is being over powered with nerves and self doubt which I know is daft and I'll learn but feel like I should be doing something to get me started.
Thanks anyone

They'd like me to go on the 1st September which is an inset day for the morning and then I start on the 2nd.
I am really nervous about the lack of experience I have with this age group and actually being employed so all your kind words are great thanks. I have looked the web sites you have given Tiki thanks and looked through a few more, there is loads I dont know about Florence. I feel I need something to boost the memory as I just seem to be unable to take anything in lately!
Anyhow if of use to anyone I thought this one was good for the classroom

Well done you! I work with year 2 and love it. We use Letters and Sounds programme now for teaching phonics. Look up Letters and Sounds on google and the standards dfes site gives you lots of info, if you can check with school beforehand what they use it may save you reading up on the wrong thing!
Just enjoy yourself, if you don't know anything - ask!! I've learnt loads from other TAs |
