I have read it. Initially I found the start hard going. Went back to it and so glad I did, one of my favourite books to date. I found the plot interesting, loved the writing style and was sad when I had finished it.

It is one of the few books where the charaters are so well written that you do not have to remember themlater in the book.

A change to see the war from a German childs view.

brilliant book which explains the power of words as well as love and sadness and the human character

it is full of lovely characters, all of who were believable and real and that you could like, even if they were bad. The narrator was fantastic giving just enough hints about the story throughout and ending the book perfectly

the writing is perfect making you re read sentences because of the way they are written. The book makes you think about evil in the world and how it affects normal people and their lives

i loved it, but then i love words, colours and souls Wink

Sounds like you have a good library - ours is ok and you can order books online to pick up but most of the books recommended on here aren't stocked in the county Sad It's a real shame as some of the books of the month sound great but they aren't available.

I've just finished this book. What a fabulous read! I loved the language and imagery that was used, descriptive in a unique way. I agree that it was a bit slow at the beginning. My mum said she couldn't get into it because it seemed too slow. I've convinced her to pick it up again. Very Happy

I loved this book and have lent it to my mum to read.

Death as narrator was bit off putting at first but it worked really well - interesting view point. Was also good to have a WWII story told from the 'other side', not often the lives of ordinary Germans in what was a terrible time for them too is told. Highly recommended!
