|

When I was given my new timetable for the new year I thought, being the optimist, I thought how great it would be, but now I am not too sure. I am in a different year group every lesson of the day. Does that show that I am adaptable or does that show me that nobody wants me in their class for too long? A new TA who is coming in has been given part of my old job. |

I would think you are adaptable! Maybe they are fighting over who will have you...If you are really worried I would talk about it when you go back but think of all that experience that you will gain! |

I am sure it makes you very versatile within the school kitkat. I would ave thought if you are secondary, this is the norm like me, but if you are primary, yes, very versatile. |

They obviously think you are very capable, not sure how practical it is though. Like others have said maybe depends whether primary or secondary. I would see how it goes and if it isn't working speak to someone.
Good luck

I have done something similar for the past 2 years. The worst part is not having a base but I have now been given a small room as I work mainly with individuals or small groups. I remember feeling very unsettled worrying about silly things like where I would keep my coat etc. It took some getting used to but I like it now. It just means being very organised and adaptable.
Make sure you get somewhere to keep your resources (cupboard or filing cabinet) and a box or similar to carry your essetials (pens, pencils, stickers etc)
Not everyone could cope with this so see it as a vote of confidence in your ability and adaptability and a challenge!
Good luck |

Thanks for your very quick replies. I am in primary. I had a base last year and was able to leave all my resources there, but as of September I will have no base at all. I not only do this but am in charge of all trips and risk assessments. I will need somewhere 'to hang my hat' but when I mentioned this at the end of last year to each year group I was told that I could have a small tray. Other than having to have quadruple resources made (this is impossible) I have nowhere central. Head not due back until the end of the holidays. Also on inservice day all TAs have to go with the year group they will be working with. I have nowhere to go.... |

I get really fed up with this. The TA's have nowhere to call there own some seem to have no resourses. I don't know how they can work like that but I have too much stuff -in case I need it. However taechers do often ask me if I have a certain piece of paper and I usually do.I have had a bit of a throw out in the hols.I'm sure I could have a large bonfire if I wanted.
As for you being in a different class don't worry I think it is definitely because you are versitile and flexible. The new person is unknown in her abilities yet. |

I work with different year groups, but luckly I'm faculty based so I have a large input into what resources are needed, however, I do carry a supply of stationary (ery) plus sheets of paper especially the squared. I think your idea of having a base even if its just a filing cabinet is great, then I would be able to keep control of supplies and not run out.
Hope it get sorted, perhaps you could share with another TA. |

Defo think because they know you are very versitile but make sure they don't put on you just because you are. Could they not give you a filing cabinet somewhere... it could be worth asking about but good luck xx _________________ It will be alright in the end...If it's not alright...Then It's not the end!! |

I think I must try and not volunteer for anything. The teaching staff have a method of talking loudly in front of me when they want something done that they 'cannot be bothered' to do themselves. I must wait until they actually have the guts to ask me outright, and then ask for time to think about it! |

I suffer from the same disease Volunteerites. I think no I won't say anything then I hear this voice coming from me saying 'don't worry, no problem, I can do that for you'
You don't mind but when they start to put upon you its a bit much, especially as TAs we are considered always available and we just wonder around school looking for work. Yeah, thats right I'm always at a loose end, thats why I work late and put in extra hours! Grrrr! |
