I completed My NVQ level 3 this year after months of sitting in front of my computer putting my all into it, it's shocking to read something like this but I have heard of this kind of thing before from others on my course. They were telling me about TA's in their school doing the level 3 with other companies and they werebeing handed the work and told to copy it! hate-nono It's disgusting and good on you for keeping your integrity in tact!! thumbsup

Really don't understand the thought process of your bosses. Does this mean that they will complete test/exam papers on behalf of students? Where does it stop. Good for you for standing up for your principles (als).

Hi daisycat,

As a tenant management organisation is a properly constituted company and I am the Chair, in a sense you could say I am the boss.

The people providing the 'training' are the ones who filled in the 'evidence' and I was expected to sign it off in return for the NVQ.

I realy don't know how you can combat such practices, other then to report them when you become aware of them.

I totally agree and it stinks. I was just suggesting I hope the people you report it too are equally principled and support you, I really do.

No worries, the matter has been taken up by our monitoring team within the council. They have taken it very seriously.

Considering the only qualifications required for being a company director on a tmo is that you are disqualified from such a position and you are a resident a major concern and risk is always the integrity of that board. Anything which is seen as a risk to that integrity is considered a high risk. Plus the council as a major local employee and investor in such schemes takes such issues seriously.

So it has now been reported and unless called to give evidence is now out of my hands Very Happy

Congratulations Nikki Smile

I did do a level 3 course this year, CIH National Housing Certificate - Tenant Participation and Neighbourhood Renewal. The 7 people who finished the course worked very hard. Three of us either worked for local authorities or are on a TMO board. The other four were interested in getting involved but had no direct experience to call upon. They struggled all the way through, especially on the presentation, they realy did deserve their certificates.

Even so I did not always agree with the tutor and we would have different discussions. One was based on wether TMOs should employ their own staff, or if they should be seconded from the local council. Later on after a visit we revisited the discussion as I pointed out the visit had shown well my concerns about seconded staff.

Actually I think I was one of the few students she has had who would disagree with her and argue their own points. But all the students, including the professionals benefitted from those discussions, and so did I in having my assumptions challenged. The thought that someone could get the certificate without doing the work is sickening. At worst it means that you have ineffective people getting positions well above their true abilities, and have lost an opportunity to learn.
