Hi there,
Well I'm attempting to finish this delightful NVQ over the summer, but been very lazy and just getting back to it now, with 3 weeks of holidays left and 3 units Confused
Anyway, I've made a good start to this unit, but having a problem with the following knowledge base....
v. The importance of checking the validity and reliability of information and how to do this.

Well, of course it's important, I just know that!!!! Arghh but having brain-freeze here (it's probably too late for me!). And how to check the validity?

Most of the records I deal with - home reading records, school guided reading sheets, RML (phonics) assessments, spellings, mental maths tests....
Records in school I've written about - assessment, pupil records, contact numbers, SENCo (IEPs, outside agencies), Able pupils, medical etc

Sorry...still confused over what to write - I don't think I can find much to say, usually I write a good half to 1 side of A4.

Thanks in advance,
Embarassed

sounds like you have it covered, I think I also wrote about how certain records were kept under lock and key for confidentiality and certain ones were on a need to know basis...........don't know if that's any help? Smile

Hi,
Thanks for the replies Smile
Now, why didn't I think of that - signed and dated?!!!
As for the records - yes I've already mentioned the fact that pupil records are kept in a locked filing cabinet in the classroom. Also said that records on the office computer system are password protected.

Maybe I'm looking to write too much...I just can't think of much beyond 2 sentences to write about the importance of checking the validity and how to do this - the importance is just obvious of course!!!!!

Maybe I'll write it in with another answer and link the answer to that - save my answer to 11.1 v. being only 3 lines long!!!

Thanks,
Wink

Sometimes it only takes a paragraph or two Milly. Quality over quantity. Looks like you are well on track. thumbsup

Many thanks for all the help Very Happy
I've just sat down and had a good go at it; once I got going it flowed quite well (I think!!)
I'm really not enjoying these optional units - I much preferred the mandatory ones (bar unit 9, review your own professional practice, urghh!!)
I plan to do Unit 24 - Numeracy which I think I'll enjoy more - I like when I write about my work with the children, not about when I filled in their reading records!!!

I may be back when I get to another unit Confused

Thank you!!

Glad you've got it covered, I didn't do the Numeracy but I done the Literacy, both big units and I left it until last because I thought it would be a nightmare but once i got into it I found this to be one of the easiest. Go for it and get it completed, it is a fab feeling when you complete and the end is insight for you. Very Happy

Well I fancied doing the Literacy unit but my tutor told me not to, said it's a lot of work! (I think she just didnt fancy marking it all!) It's those units I prefer though, when I can write about what I do - the evidence is so much easier to write than all this nonsence about pupil records! (Sorry, just had enough of Unit 11!)

I agree with dancingqueen it's about you not what your assessor thinks is alot of work. I really enjoyed the literacy unit and from what i could see it was about the same amount of work as the numeracy. Do what units you want to do, I felt it was one of those units where you could write alot of your experiences and put in lots of evidence like book records, worksheets and photocopies of book covers. Very Happy
