Not sure where to start really, a house a couple of doors away from us have 3 dogs, yesterday at about 8am I heard howling, I think there's only 2 of them there at the moment.
Well the howling went on all day and well into the evening, we could still hear it at 8pm, so during yesterday after searching the internet for advice I rang the RSPCA for help, it seems that there isn't anything they can do, they can only intervene if the dogs are being treated badly altho they did say if I were to see the owners maybe I could let them know about the howling
Well I didn't see the owners and this morning at 7.15am we were woken up by howling and this has been going on most of the day, they will howl for around 10 - 15 minutes then be quiet, at first its a relief but then I start to worry that something has happened, so today I rang our local Council's Animal Welfare Services, I explained everything and the woman was helpful and understanding, I said the noise is not my main concern and that I am worried about the health and welfare of the dogs, she said we can send the owners a letter regarding the noise but unfortunately thats about it and again she said maybe I could approach the owners.
I am more than willing to talk to them only problem with that is we havent flipping well seen them! (sorry )
Hubby says I have done all I can do I just feel useless that while I am sitting here letting off steam they are howling, they are not lose in the garden so I can't even 'see' if they are alright
Sorry to have moaned I just needed to get it out of my head, so to speak.
Thanks all. _________________

it makes you mad when the very agencies there to help are unable to!!!
do you have a dogs trust or anything else nearby, or even the police, im at a loss to suggest anything, but would be worried myself
how about the local council again and complain about the noise? _________________

Thank you all for reading my 'rant' the poor souls are still howling however through a lot of texting friends of friends etc and a couple of phone calls I have managed to make contact with someone who has a friend who knows the owners (still with me? ) and she is going to phone them to let them know, so hopefully, fingers crossed someone will at some point arrive to see to the dogs.
Failing that I thought I might call in at the Police station tomorrow and ask them for advice. I really do hope there is a genuine reason for them being left on their own.
I did find out that they have got proper kennels, which is where they must be but I cant see them from our house and I cant go into the garden as that will be classed as trespassing I think I really have done all that I can.
One thing I will say is our little Jack Russell Buddie has had even more hugs than usual the past couple of days, poor soul has had the shakes every time they start. _________________

We have a very similar story. One of our neighbours has gone on holiday for 4 weeks. We live in a cul de sac on a new estate and most people are friendly and get on because of the kids. From the moment these neighbours moved in they have done their best to not be friendly or approachable.
Anyway a few of us had noticed the cat had been miaowing at night (couldn't miss it), dead birds (never happened before) in gardens, and cat left out in the pouring rain, and that nobody had been to see the cat. One neighbour rang the RSPCA who came out and put a notice on the door for someone to contact them. 24 hrs later they had no call, and made enquiries at another neighbours door, one of them had a contact no for one of the children so the RSPCA man called and left a message on her mobile.
Hours later the Mother turned up at my door (having knocked and spoken to many of the other neighbours doors) basically saying we were fussing over nothing, that the cat doesnt eat meat (one of the neighbours had been kindly feeding it) and that they were watching the cat. This was lies, previous year they went away for 2 weeks and another neighbour fed it because no one came.
They are now coming to see the cat but only every 4/5 days. Its disgusting.
I worry for the dogs if this is unusual they have probably been left. I would ring the RSPCA again and express your concerns that they may have been left.

Aww the poor dogs, I really hope that it has been sorted now. Makes you wonder why people have animals if they can not look after them properly. In my area, the dogs are well walked as I always pass neighbours on the field when I'm taking my dog
I think I would have had to have had a peek over the fence if I was you, if only to get some solid evidence that they were not being looked after properly. I can not understand that the RSPCA did not investigate your concerns. Surely they have a responsibility to find out whether or not the dogs are being cared for appropriately. Its alright saying that they can't do anything but when you hear these horror stories in the paper about how animals have been so badly treated, I'd rather go barging in than give them the benefit of the doubt but thats just me. I love my dog and he probably gets better treated than some kids!! |

If you find yourself if this position again try phoning the Envioromental Health at your local council. This howling could be considered a nuisance noise level. Also the EHO will have contacts with the RSPCA. |
