Hi Lucie

I am doing the L2 Betec with ICS

Its ok in terms of content and does exactly what it says on the tin but I dont feel its great value for money. Given the choice again I think I would have tried harder to find a college offering the course as evening classes. Although you get phone support from a tutor and the people on here and the ICS website are very helpful its not the same as being in a classroom and having a tutor right in front of you and other people to work along side.

Also, the ICS course is supposedly written so you dont have to have a work placement. They give you a case study to read that is meant to be a replacement for working in a school and you base your assingments on that. Without a shadow of a doubt it is no substitute for real school experience and you should try and get at least one day a week in a school.

If you are already working in a school anyway then the NVQ is probably a better idea.

Razz i also did the ics level 2 and i passed with distinctions. However i am struggling to find work. I was lucky enough to work at my children's school and had a great teacher to work with. If either of you need any help just let me know as i know how alone you can feel on the ics course.

Hi

I am too doing the BTEC course, I am on my final assignment but I am finidng it a nightmare. If you need any help let me know, I managed a merit on the last 3 assignments but somehow I think I'll be lucky to pass the final one.

I have to agree with someone else (sorry forgot name) that you can feel very alone with the ICS course. I am getting close to my deadline and I am panicking, I thought I'd have plenty of time to complete the course but it wasn't as simple as I's thought (the time management not the course).

Hi Lucie,

I am also doing the BTEC Level 2 with ICS..I did quite alot of research before I started the course (in July) and they are the best value around unless you are able to get a college course - which I was unable to do.

If you do have a placement/volunteer position at a school I think that helps definately with the course work.

Hope you have been able to decide what you want to do and wish you luck.
