Hi everyone,

Well I went to the interview on thursday and even though I didn't get the job I went for (one-to-one) the Head asked me if I would be interested in something else. she offered me a job supporting young boy entering pre-school. He is disabled (don't know to many details as yet) and I would be working with him for two hours each day. I'm I doing the right thing?
The way I'm looking at it is that the staff will be able to observe what I can do and if anything else comes up within the school I will be able to apply for it. What do you think?
When I was told about the position my first reaction was that I wouldn't settle for anything that wasn't perminent, full-time and in KS1. Now I have doubts that if I don't take this I'd be a big fool as it as potential.
Any thoughts on this one guys as this is messing with my head big time.

Well done. You obviously impressed them but someone just pipped you at the post. Sad

I think a few of us have got jobs by being in the right place at the right time. I began volunteering, then doing my NVQ and was in the right place when another position came along. I then applied for another permanent position in the same school and the rest, as they say, is history. Even if nothing else comes along at least you will have relevant experience and a reference.

A few thoughts:
Is it enough hours (and pay) for now?
Is there anything else in the pipeline?
I would also want to know more about the child I would be working with before accepting the position.
Don't accept it because there is nothing else (at the moment) or in the hope of it leading to something more in the school. Hopefully it will but it may not and in most areas more jobs come up in September with the new intake.

Well done for getting this far and good luck whatever you decide to do.

Thanks Holliew, Very Happy
I started my career as a supervisory assistant then asked if I could work voluntary. Like you things progressed and I did my Level 2&3 NVQ's.

To answer ytour questions though. At the moment it's 10 hours per week, not sure of the pay, yet, and I've asked if there are any positions going in their after school club (i'm Level 3 in Playwork too).
This is what is getting to me. I think I am accepting it as I've applied for well over 40 jobs since May and haven't got anything. I also need money cause I'm borrowing form my parent's which isn't fair. Embarassed
My only alternative is to accept it but still apply for other jobs when they appear.

cazzie , well done and congratulations , You must have you'r dowts ,but that is how i started at the school i work . Iwas employed to support a child for a few hours a week , then another child was offered support and my hours increased to support him also , then a temperey job came up for 12months in nursery which i got ,in which time i did my NVQ3 ,at the end of it the Nursery nurse in our nursery left and i applied and got her job ,which i am still doing and love , so hang in there . Iwas working on the welfare for 9years at the school i work .I went off and did my TA 1,2 &3 courses and when i was supporting the child i helped , at first i carried on doing my welfare job for the hours and pay , i multitasked but it kept me in the school and was on hand when the jobs came up . So take the job and make it clear to the head that you would love a permanent job and more hours if it comes avaliable . it will give you chance to shine and prove you'rself . good luck

Oh, thanks Lizzy. Have a big I am having doubts but I'm putting it down to nerves. I'll be seeing the Head on 1st Sept so I intend to remind her. The Head is lovely and we hit it off straight away mainly due to the fact that she's only been there a year herself so she know's the feeling (if you know what I mean)
