Ive had a couple of Epsom printers and used compatibles with both printers. [Have always liked Epsom]The last printer Epsom C82 only lasted a couple of years and print quality was haphazard. I print a lot at home but cartridges still clogged up.

So a couple of weeks ago I needed to buy a new printer and decided to go for a HP desktop F380. Am still using the original cartridges to date but have bought replacements. This time though I have decided to stick to originals rather than compatibles. having compared prices for originals and compatibles there doesn't seem to be much difference in price for this printer so am prepared to pay a bit extra for quality.

Well, I have just brought a new HP black ink cartridge [original] cost me £14. I put it in the printer on Saturday and have printed approximately 50 pages. It is now coming up as saying I am running out of ink!!!
if this is the case then I am afraid I will go to compatibles. Anyone else experience this with HP cartridges. I bought it from WHS.

not sure what sort it is but that is very poor, if you search online for the cartridge it should give you an idea of how may pages should it do, usually estimates on about 20% coverage. if its way out i'd take it back and ask for a replacement

e.g. HP20 (normal not large) should yeild 228 pages

My old Epson all-in-one colour ink-jet was costing me a fortune.

I went out and bought a mono laser printer.

I bough a HP LaserJet 1018. Dabs currently sells them for £57.02 inc vat. The toner costs £35.06 and lasts for 2,000 pages. If you don't need colour then do think about it.

Actually just to compare costs with my old ink-jet (Epson CX3200).

The current prices for my old ink-jet are:
Colour Ink Cartridge £22.39 inc vat 300 pages
Black Ink Cartridge £24.24 inc vat 600 pages

So just for the two cartridges I was forking out £46.63 every time! I never got anywhere near the quoted 300/600 pages. Every time I switched on the printer it wastes ink. I also had to go through the "cleaning heads" process many times too. I could have bought well over 6 new laser printers when I look back on how much I had spent on cartridges!!!

Perhaps you could put away the money you were spending for a year or two (as tho you never bought the new one) and then treat yourself to something super at the end of it Wink

Thanks forall the links. Having done some comparing on HP 21 and 22 cartridges I have found that the originals only hold 5ml whilst compatibles hold 20ml! Big difference.
