anyone covering this with any good ideas for getting the students interested?

One of the things we did was open our own WWII museum. The children went round asking grandparents, neighbours and friends for any memorabilia. They gathered together quite a collection in the end. They also invited adults who could remember the war years to come along and talk about their experiences. The children loved to here the old stories and the adults had a fine old time as well. The grandmothers and a cooking session with the children following old wartime recipes as well. The children made up their own ration books and used them to buy the ingredients, etc.

thanx tiki, the cooking bit sounds like alot of fun, have to see if we can hook up the the tech dept. kids do bring things in but alas we can't keep them in school as not enough room and the classroom is used for all years. i am going to find some recipes tonight. any idea where i can buy powered egg?

i am going to go for the beetroot pudding, my mum used to make potato cakes with sultanas and sugar, they are really scrummy. i will let you know how we go on the beetroot pudding.

We got the kids to dress up as evacuees and didn't let them come in to school in the morning made them line up on the playground and got some parents and spare staff ( other LSA's office staff etc ) to come out and chose the children as if theywere going to take them home, they all had labels saying who they were and where they had come from. We then spent the day singing wwII SONGS, COOKING, making Anderson shelters under the tables (draping blankets over them) playing games from that era like fives, cats cradle etc and then we had a sleep over in the hall under the Anderson shelters. It was a brilliant day/night and the kids have never forgotten it. (We were even on the telly!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
