Wonder if anyone can help - managed to persuade the govs to be a bit more recognisable by setting up leaflet and website with photos so they are more accessible.
Now there is concern re being nabbed by parents with difficult questions or complaints and whilst some are happy to either refer to school (if not followed normal complaints procedure) or simply say " I dunno" or "I will have to find out and get back to you" others are in a spin and want some guidelines or a policy - and this is where you guys come in!! Very Happy Idea
Does anyone have such a document they could let me have??
Thanks
Bananas

I do not have a policy at home to refer to, but working in the school and having a child there I have always been the first person loads of people come to for information or a moan!

Have always just said that I would put it to the HT or chair which ever is more appropriate, or if it was something more sensitive/serious, asked the person to put it in writing to pass to the chair. Governors should not discuss issues directly with the parents for several reasons... if nothing else to safeguard themselves.

Thats not to say I haven't been listening ear if all the parent actually needed was a kind or sympathetic ear (or even someone to vent their frustrations out on)!

I was a parent governor for 11 years and often got nabbed outside school.I always gave the parents advice on how to take something further if they asked and calmed down many who were aggravated by other children or parents and showed them a different way of looking at it .A lot just wanted to sound off at someone and when I asked if they wanted me to bring it up at meeting to let me know. They rarely did.
I think its a brilliant idea.If they don't want to be recognised they shouldn't be Governors. My children's school was small about 50 at its biggest and the Governors were always popping in and out.We also provided acheese and wine evening at the AGM and mince pies and sherry at Christmas after the carol service. Most of the parents knew all the Governors.

we have a question box at the reception of our school. Parents are asked to put any queries that they might have goes in it.
We also have a monthly parent governors meeting where parents are invited to come along and speak to the governors. Our parent governors have a hih profile in the school
