|
|
I've just heard through the school grapevine that Headteacher is going to ask me to deliver French classes next September. Yes, I can order food and booze, count up to 10 and know days and months, hello, goodbye etc.
Don't know that would qualify me to teach les enfants though. Can anyone point me in the direction of what will be delivered in the way of MFL to Primary children, small group/whole class, which years and how many lessons per week?
Feel I need to research the subject before I am approached. Most important, will it mean more money??????
Merci beaucoup,

Oui Madame. Je suis tres formidable!
Seriously though dq, I do need a niche. The school is developing in a way that I am feeling a bit "bottom of the pile" at the moment. All my intervention work has been taken away and we now have an intervention queen, an ICT queen etc etc. I was hoping for something like TA aide to SENCO, but hey, French teacher sounds just as good.
It won't be whole sentences surely at primary. Might see what DfES website says on the subject. Goodness knows how schools fit it in, and is it available to all or gifted and talented only?

I don't know what I have to do to get approval. Others just have to do a banner or take a few nice photographs and they get heaps of praise at TA meetings. I have spent whole year on level 3 and I never get asked how it is going. My top maths group all got 5B's at year 5 optional tests (expected levels 3B I think at age 10). Didn't get a mention when I entered results!
Could never be another Dancing Queen anyway! _________________

Yes, just looking at them. Reckon I could do unit 1 easily. The other link you sent mentions that it should be delivered by teacher, but TA posted that she takes French class during PPA time. She is doing degree though.
Oooh la la, je suis Madame Lbee, formidable, n'est pas? _________________

I have just finished preparing a resource pack for each primary school in our secondary school catchment area as we are taking part in a government initiative where one of the secondary teachers is the Primary MFL co-ordinator. I have cut and laminated sets and sets of lotto cards, flashcards, downloaded worksheets, copied items from disc etc, it is all very basic stuff (the primarys are getting copies in french and spanish ).
You should have a nominated person from your school that has been to a few meetings about this (possibly the HT) and hopefully the secondary school co-ordinator is arranging a resource pack and scheme of work for your school too. (Would like to think I am not the only poor sap printing, cutting and laminating over this ) |

Hi Mummills,
would you say the resource pack you are preparing could be delivered by a TA with GCSE and conversational French only? _________________

I have been in class supporting Year5 SENs in their French .A teacher came in on supply to do it I will try to gather up information and post it in the 1/2 term with daughters help.It was fairly basic. My daughter was keen when younger and we purchased some good videos I will list these too.You could look into Le Club Francais this is a franchise I think. She went from 5 and it was great fun perhaps the school could purchase it.You follow a week by week syllabus. There are songs, games and conversation.
Unfortunately they have allowed them to drop French at year 10and she has in favour of music. |

Hi Lbee,
sounds like a terrifying prospect, but I think you might be first of many TAs who will be recruited to do this over the next few years. I was reading something couple of weeks ago which implied that a MFL should be taught in Primaries by 2010? (date might not be accurate so don't quote me on that!) and - you guessed it - TAs would be the likely deliverers of said curriculum!
At the moment, we have a French lady (qualified to teach in France I believe) who comes in to cover PPA. She does very basic stuff with the children - mostly words along a specific subject (it was weather this week), no writing though they do get to see the words in print. Very much along the old Longman 'ecoutez et repetez' style (anybody else do that at school? "Madame Marsaud est dans la cuisine. Bruno le chien est dans le jardin avec Jean-Paul." Brilliant!)
Sounds like you will be the perfect candidate for the job. Hope you have a great deal of fun with it! _________________ A balanced diet is a Mars bar in each hand. |

Hi Mother_Goose,
thanks for having faith in me. I am an apprentice of the Dancing Queen Academy of Assertiveness, so I am trying to believe in my own ability.
It sounds scary but would be great to be in on something from the pilot stage.
I haven't read anywhere how the curriculum is delivered and how teaching assistants feature.
Will keep you all posted incase I am the first of many! _________________
