I don't know of any books to recommend, but Susan Godsland's web site is a mine of information:

The whole topic of dyslexia is not as straightforward as it is sometimes made out to be. There is a strong body of opinion that much 'dyslexia' is caused by inappropriate teaching methods, primarily trying to get children to learn words as 'wholes' (sight words) instead of teaching them the relationship between letters and sounds.

There is also no consensus among the scientific community over the definition and causes of 'dyslexia'.
