Dancing Queen asked me to talk a little bit about things to look out for n the classroom as my own son has this.
The children will usually be unaware that they have had a fit whether it is a small one or a full blown seizure.
Some fits can last only seconds but during that time the child will lose both hearing and sight, but be unaware of it ,if the teacher is talking to the class they will just think that they don't understand as the teacher appears to not be making any sense. This means they usually have low self estime.
Out of one sentence they could miss up to 80% of the words.
There are 4 main triggers it depends on the child as to which one is pertinent to them,
Strobe Lights
Stess/extreme worry
Tiredness
Hunger
If they are on medication this will have the side effect of giving them very short attention spans, as they work on speeding up the electrical pulses around the brain.
Social skills are often poor and making friends is tough.
In class the child will look like they are just staring without blinking and their eyes may roll, even stronger fits amy mean they start twitching their arms but these will be fairly obvious.
The staring is often confused with daydreaming and can result in the child being told off for not listening when in fact they didn't even realise that they had missed anything.
Hope this helps someone. This is more common than we think.
