Has anyone ever used or made their own tactile phonics? How do you rate them?

I was thinking of somthing to consolidate initial digraph blends, not quite sure what though. I would like to turn it into some kind of game. I use blending dominoes quite alot, I play bingo and also use blending dice. Fed up with the same things, I was thinking of taking a multisensory approach.

you could use a sand/salt tray then, or the modelling or try the Fernauld tracing technique....they may work, all multisensory

I was thinking of somthing that they can actually hold, also they are KS2 so don't want it to appear too babyish.

I made some phonics blends with the display board letters that we buy in, you know the type of thing that you put a title on your display with but then cut them out of sand paper to make them more tactile, worked well kids loved them. I'm told now that you can actually buy them already made of sandpaper but I don't know how true this is or where you would go to get them.

Shaving foam is a great tool, if you have a surface you can easily wipe. I have some soft multi coloured plastic letters from galt, they work well too.

I use wooden letters in a bag. They have to take turns, put their hand in the bag, feel the letter, identify the sound before they remove it to see if it's correct. If it is, they get a point and keep the letter. If not, they return the letter to the bag and the next child has their turn. The one with the most points at the end wins. They can also see if they can make any words with the letters they've won for extra points. (I do this with secondary special).
