Anyone use clicker 5, what good uses have you found for it? It seems a fantastic programme.

I have clicker 4 at school and used it extensively with a non-writing child with ASD.

have just had clicker 5 installed.
used to use clicker 4 with a child who uses switches, but can't do that with clicker 5.
also at present we are unable to download any of the grids from the net.
it is a very good programme if you have time to use it as you shoud. by that i mean making grids for the children to use.
it is great to help them read what they have types as the words are spoken as they type and the children can hear immediately if they have made a mistake.
there is also the possibility of pictures appearing of the majority of nouns that are typed.
out of 10 i would give it 8.

Yes have had basic training on it but it seems like you have to have time to plan on it? have you managed to download from learning grids.com & are they good?

I've started using clicker 5 [previously had clicker 4] with a child who was struggling to write a recount [Y2] last week. I had a group of children and he hadn't managed to write one sentence even though he had a picture cue of his visit. When I asked if he was having problems he began to cry.
I asked the teacher if I could spend some one to one time with him after break where I used the clicker grids to write in key words after discussing with him what he wanted to write about.

Then we concentrated on constructing a sentence [the words in the grid were only nouns that he wouldn't be able to spell independently.] He was absolutely delighted to hear his sentence read back and the picture cues helped with choosing the correct word. such as coach. [we went on the coach to......]

This encouraged him to think verbally of another sentence.

yes it is time consuming, and was used on a one to one basis but if it improves self esteem and writing then I will ask to have one session a week with him. [so I am using it as a wave 3 intervention]

I am in the process of ordering clicker paint too and this will extend the usefulness of the programme even more as children can draw their own illustrations and even write their own talking book as they can record their voices.
