none of us can ever imagine the hell that these young men went through, the horrors of the front during WW1, and the horrific battles of Ypres and the Somme for example

so maybe at last the right decision has been made....and there is a memorial too for thise soldiers in Staffordshire

Pte Harry Farr was the same age as my little boy, makes you think.....and some of them were young boys of 16 and 17 who had lied about their age to join in the big adventure and march off to war

a real injustice, its been a long time coming

I agree with you, DQ - so often they were suffering from what we now understand to be PTSD; and as far as I can gather no mitigating circumstances were ever taken into account.

What mixed emotions those families must be feeling... and how many more should be in the same boat but at present aren't?

This makes me so sad when i think about what life must have been like for his widow in post war England having to live with her head held high and carrying on life with her daughter staying strong and never giving up on the belief that he was no coward. Even to walk past people in the street on her way to the shops would have been a trial, and what about Gertrud was she bullied at school about her Dad, the posible repercussions of that decision by the officers were far reaching indeed.

It's a cruel world.

Makes me cry and also makes me ashamed, but once again the decision makers of this country were allowed to stand behind their 'title' to defend their indefencable actions.

I saw a programme on Sky about some of the soldiers and the reasons given for 'killing' these young men were unbelievable. One of them I saw a case study on was court martialed (sp) whilst still in hospital with a nurse pleading his case!

exactly...how would any of us react to seeing our friends killed or left wounded/screaming and dying for hours in pain, and knowing that next time the whistles blew we were going to certain death..... Confused

How they can call anyone a coward who has played a part in a war is beyond me, I don't think we can even begin to imagine what they went through Shocked
