Has anyone got any first hand experience with NESSY, a programme written by the Bristol dyslexia institute that covers, well everything from ALS type stuff to memory aids etc. The programme looks huge and fun much better than boring ALS and can be used for all children not just Dyslexic ones. Age range 5-15.

It looks fab on the website and the demo disk but can only get to a small part of it.

Your comments would be welcome.

I managed to persuad my school to buy this and it's looking great. Loads of work to get the resources ready, it reminds me of when we prepared ALS.

8 children already assessed for it from yr2 and yr4.
Hoping to start after half term.

i don't know why my school just dismissed it out of hand, i used the trial with the kids and they clearly loved it. i think that if one of "favourites" had taken it in it would have been the best thing since sliced bread.

i am still a fan though.

one of the favs had loads of stuff hidden full of phonics and the like. no one was allowed to use it as we had not been on the course!! now the school is into ruth miskin, the old phonics stuff is thrown on the table for every one to use (without training). i looked at the old stuff and could not see my year 9 lad trying to be interested in fluffy the puppy. he may have a few years ago.

the place is full of squirrels, if you know what i mean.

Thought i would give you all an update on Nessy.

We have been running it for 4 weeks now and the results are great. The kids are keen to learn and the games are fun. We set up 2 twenty min sessions a week linked it to whole class spellings and sent a few worksheets home to help them learn the rule as well . Fantastic stuff and good feedback from the parents too. The kids know that once i think they have got the hang of a new rule that I will let them test their skills on the laptop games, which gives them added incentives.

Rate it 5 stars. And well worth a look at. Not just for dyslexic chldren but for all poor spellers and readers.

We have used this for about 3 years now for poor spellers and readers with great results. The children all love doing Nessy. It's mainly used in KS2 (I work in KS1) but I did use it with Y2 children a couple of years ago.

You're right about lots of preparation for the resources (fortunately lots were made up by the time I came to use it Very Happy ) but once they're made they do last. We keep each colour set in an appropriately colour coded box file so that they are easy to find.

Nice to hear someone else thinks this is good. We are rolling it out across the 2 key stages up to yr5 for poor spellers. And the results are good. Kids love it which helps alot too. Cool
