The secondary school has a statement review with a pupil I support. The SENCO has said I can attend if I wish but I'm not sure what's involved & whether (as the person who has been with him most in school!) I should really have been asked for my input sooner ! Confused

Can anyone give me some pointers ??

during the review his statement will be looked at to see whether his current statement still relfects his need. His current targets should be looked at and his provision should be discussed. The views of the pupil and parents will also be sought.

you should certainly have been asked to attend previous reviews or at least your views sought before the review

Its amazing how they don't bother asking the person that works with the child isn't it. I wasn't told about one of my pupils reviews found out afterwards. A few years ago I always attended each child's review and I always wrote a report and gave a copy to other agencies. It seems to have changed but so has the SENCO so perhaps a different view point.

I would write a short report so if you are asked anything you have it to hand.I also put in recent reading scores.

There is a meeting to discuss 'Fred' today .. mainly how he is coping/behaving in school on a day to day basis and where we think we should be going. Parents/Grandparents SENco HT will be there. I won't, so not only will I have no input I will get everything back 3rd hand Rolling Eyes

CT is out too...................

I work in a secondary school in a special needs unit. I have always been asked for a report about the children that i support for their statement review. The SENCO is always supportive and as ta's we are expected to attend and our views and opinions are appreciated. It seems that different schools have different ways of askinf for information from their support staff.

I have been to all the review meetings and also provide a report for them, supposed to be brief but I don't do brief very well and I still feel that I have missed out something really important! I would definately go and I am very surprised that they haven't asked you sooner. You after all are the person who will know best how he/she is achieving the targets set especially if there is emotional ones involved.

I attend the reviews for the child I support (primary) and usually talk the most, along with the parents! Not because Im chatty, but because after the parents, my role means I can give them first hand information about the child. I also found it very informative meeting the people from outside agencies. I think its terrible that some TA's are not even asked to reviews.
