program to learn touch typing and commented how well they were doing. I can type reasonably quickly, but only while looking at the keys, so thought I would give it a go Not got very far yet but it seems a really good program so think I will continue with it whatdoes anyone else think, or are you all expert typers

I used that program last year to help teach a group of ASN puppils to type. Had one who hit keys very hard with one finger when he started and another who was very anxious about using the keyboard - all loved it (ASD pupil had to have the sound off) and made it to the end. Love seeing them now setting their fingers out and trying to remember how to do it properly.

I love that game and have the yr 6's at lunchtime doing it. I myself type using six fingers max, lol and usually get have typed as ahve and the same with has/ahs.
I used this today with a class of year 5/6 and most loved it (only one yr 5 boy didn't and that was probably because he couldn't do it staight away).
Biggest problem was that we only have 20 workstations in our ICT suite and there were 26 children in the class. Why oh why do they do this. How many (lucky) schools have 20 or less in a class.
Anyway vast majority of children loved it and all achieved at it (although I know some looking at the keyboard was going on LOL)
OOPS all achieved except the one that didn't like it.
We use a touch typing software but not sure of it's the same. We use it as a guided reading activity on 6 laptops already set up for the morning session in yr 6 and now yr 5 have also begun to do the same. This is alongside 2 separate reading groups with CT and TA, a group listening to stories on headphones and a group doing a spelling activity. We find it very useful as it helps all the children improve their typing skills especially when it comes to longer ICT and document creating tasks.
